“Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6, NKJV).
Writing daily reflections about walking with Jesus is like free association. You express what is on your mind and in your heart in real time. It’s like a letter to God that welcomes others to the conversation.
It may be better to post only positive, encouraging, polished snapshots of the journey. Like a collection of family photos that have been purged of all but the best reflections of Christmas dinner at Grandma's house.
But we all know that isn't the reality of daily carrying the cross; at least it hasn’t been my reality. This reality can include both mountain-peak experiences that would impress Abraham Maslow and the valley floor of the swamp of despair—sometimes from one day to the next.
Yesterday was a good example. “Gen Z Revival?” was a blend of objective research and raw frustration. Part of me wants to delete it or revise it, to clean up the barfing I did on the computer screen so no one reads my rant about the contemporary church.
Old Creation Seeking the Lord
After all, the Apostle Paul reminds us, “…if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
I didn’t “feel” new yesterday. I felt like the same old man who couldn’t control his computer keystrokes. I was a N.A.R.P…Negatively Addicted to Reality Person!
And still, despite my regressions, God tells me (and you) to continue calling out to Him. He will polish the rough edges of our personality; shine the Sword of the Spirit that we are given as believers. Just don’t look back. Don’t quit on the sojourn.
New Creation Calling to Him
Today, I sit in peace and joy writing this reflection on a purple bench courtesy of the Boerne Garden Club. The giant oak tree above offers a green leaf-covered canopy to block the sun. A gentle breeze cools my skin.
It's a perfect snapshot of God's creation. It's a perfect opportunity to seek the Lord, to call out to Him, and thank Him for His blessings.
It’s a perfect place to wait for my wife, who, like our Lord, appears to be tarrying while shopping.
Google Trends: Good News
I felt drawn to check Google Trends. I discovered some encouraging news! Take a look:
In the past 12 months, “Jesus”, as a search query, increased by 10% in the United States and 9% Worldwide.
In the past 12 months, “The Bible” search queries increased by 20% in both the U.S. and Worldwide.
In the past 24 months, “Christianity” search queries increased by 20% in the U.S. and 40% Worldwide.
To see that people in the U.S. and worldwide are feeling the call to seek the Lord was both encouraging and reassuring. These increases are compared to the previous 12-month period; that is, from 2025-2026.
Concluding Thoughts
The Prophet Isaiah sounded the alarm to seek the Lord and to call on Him while we still have time. We have many ways to do this. Writing an online journal like this one is one way.
But scrubbing away or sanitizing the entries that don’t always “feel good” makes for a fake walk with Jesus. It’s honest and genuine to write about the highs and the lows because He knows the truth anyway.
And, as we see in today’s note, people around the world are feeling the call to find out more about Jesus, the Bible, and Christianity.
Let’s continue doing our part to share the Good News even when we are in a bad mood.
