As I look outside the window of my writing space, I notice a fog in the air—just dense enough to keep me from seeing the distant hills.

It’s hard not to see fog as a metaphor for my own wonderings. In my earlier journal entry, Is This Church?, I was left with an unsettling question about who is considered a brother or sister in Christ.

I’m still comfortable with my response, but I’m not sure it’s shared universally among Christians. These days, there seems to be more variability than ever before—at least in my lifetime.

Perhaps that’s a good thing. Maybe not.

One thing is clear, though: Simply Walking With Jesus takes me out of my comfort zone. I rarely sense the comfort or safety of an institutional church. Most days, this walk feels wild—an adventure—never just going through church motions.

Walking daily as an ambassador of Christ feels a bit like Forrest Gump’s line: “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.”

Just writing this—processing it honestly—begins to clear the fog. As it lifts, the distant hills come back into view. I’m reminded of John 14:26: that we each have the Holy Spirit, who teaches us all things and brings to remembrance all that Jesus has said.

With that reminder comes clarity.

So, is this for believers only?

Simply Walking With Jesus is for anyone who feels called to it—or for those whom God draws near it.
