Biscuits with sausage gravy have long been one of my favorite breakfasts.
For many of us, it’s comfort food—something that reminds us of childhood. More than that, it tastes good.
But just because something feels good and tastes good doesn’t mean it is good.
We know that.
Some might try to convince us there are “healthy” aspects to it, but deep down, we’re not fooled. Biscuits and gravy are not health food. I can’t deceive myself.
Even if I tried to justify it with Scripture—like pointing to Paul’s words that it’s not what goes into a man that defiles him, but what comes out—deep down, I know better.
At some point, I have to accept responsibility.
Repent.
And then go work it out.
The parallel to modern Christendom isn’t hard to see.
Believers sit in pews week after week, listening to words that feel comfortable… that taste good… that align with the cultural appetite. Messages that go down easy.
But are we willing to see that kind of teaching for what it may be?
Spiritual comfort food.
Unhealthy… but acceptable… because everyone else in the room is enjoying it.
How many leave satisfied… yet still empty?
Full… but not nourished.
Unprepared for the narrow path ahead.
Jesus warned us about deception.
And deception rarely announces itself.
It feels right.
It sounds right.
It’s widely accepted.
That’s what makes it dangerous.
As I reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice, I feel myself being pulled away from the things that simply taste good—whether it’s food for the body or words for the soul.
I don’t want what is merely comfortable.
I want what is true.
So I repent.
And I go to work—body, mind, and spirit—strengthening what God has given me.
